Who we are.
Berbera economic forum is the core of permanent public-private partnership to manage the implementation of the local economic development strategic plan aligned with the regional, development plans and national development plan. The Berbera economic forum creates public awareness of local economic development and leads all the stages of the LED process.
Berbera economic forum by adhering to the local economic development principles conducts stakeholder mapping on regular basis to identify the relevant stakeholders and gets them on board with the local economic development process.
Mandate
Somaliland constitution states in article 111: The regional and district councils shall have the power to plan their economic and social affairs. District municipalities are to exercise powers and functions that maximize the impact of social development, responding to the needs of the poor and ensuring local economic growth”. Berbera economic forum is currently under the auspices of the Berbera Municipality Authority.
The Structure
The Forum is registered at the office of National attorney General, the Berbera City and the Ministry of Planning and Development. The General Assembly of the Forum consist of 25 members from the private sector. The Board is elected for 3 years and consist of 7 individual members, with a Chairman and Vice-Chairman. In case of disputes the Local government of Berbera will mediate and have a final say in conflict resolution.
